Step 1: Creating the Blank Canvas
Starting a new video game project can be incredibly daunting, but carefully setting up your digital workspace shouldn't be the stressful part. When you first successfully log into the Lobbi portal, your personalized dashboard serves as an empty, waiting canvas.
To begin, firmly click the bright blue "New Project" button located in the upper right quadrant of your screen. You will be prompted to give your project a clear, distinct, and searchable name (e.g., "Project_Neon_RPG" or "Untitled_Mobile_Racer"). This action instantly provisions a dedicated, siloed database and completely segregates all communication channels, ensuring your new game's data will live securely in its own environment.
Step 2: Inviting Core Members and Roles
Before you enthusiastically start dumping raw 3D assets or design documents into the Creator Hub, you must carefully define your founding team. Navigate directly to the "Members" tab securely located within your newly formed project settings panel.
Begin by inviting your core leadership group: your lead programmer, your lead 3D artist, and your producer via their direct email addresses. It is absolutely crucial to set strict permissions immediately during this step. Grant your seasoned leads the "Admin" role so they possess the authority to approve incoming assets, verify merge requests, and manage overarching sprint checklists.
Conversely, when inviting standard freelance contractors or junior developers later in production, strictly set them to the "Member" role. This critical security step physically restricts them from accidentally deleting critical project root files or maliciously altering the master branch geometry.
Step 3: Establishing a Strong Folder Structure
A rigidly well-organized Creator Hub is the undeniable foundation of a healthy, scalable pipeline. A disorganized hub is technical debt masquerading as agility. We strongly recommend creating the following specific root folders perfectly aligning with your pipeline immediately upon setup:
- 01_Concept_Art: For raw moodboards and 2D sketches.
- 02_3D_Models: With heavily nested subfolders strictly separating Environments from Characters.
- 03_Audio: Splitting raw SFX layers from mastered Music tracks.
- 04_UI_Assets: Housing all font files and standard iconography.
Notice the numbers? This strict numerical prefixing explicitly ensures your core folders sort logically down the screen rather than defaulting to confusing alphabetical sorting. This simple trick keeps your tired team universally oriented from Day 1 to Day 1,000.
Step 4: Defining Your First Checklists
With your team securely invited and your folders meticulously structured, it is time to map out the actual work. Navigate to the Checklists module. Do not create a monolithic checklist called "Make the Alpha." That guarantees failure.
Instead, create a highly granular checklist specifically targeting your immediate, two-week goal. Title it "Milestone 1: Core Movement Mechanics." Add five deeply atomic tasks to this list, explicitly assign them to your newly invited programmer and animator, and watch the visual progress bar fill as they conquer their first week.
Step 5: The Inaugural Asset Upload
The final step to cementing your Lobbi installation is testing the visual pipeline. Have your Lead Artist purposely export a simple, textured 3D cube (an FBX format is optimal) from Maya or Blender and drag it directly into the "02_3D_Models" folder via their web browser.
Drag & drop your files here
Supports OBJ, FBX, PNG, WAV (up to 500MB)
A notification will instantly ping your Lead Producer in the integrated Workplace chat. By clicking that notification, they should verify the 3D cube loads perfectly, spins natively in the browser, and correctly reflects the PBR textures. You have now established a complete, end-to-end feedback loop in less than 20 minutes.
